Job Description

• Work individually or in a team environment in the delivery of care and related services to aged persons in residence and to be responsible for the quality of their own work.

• Ensuring the delivery of a high standard of care, in accordance with the adopted philosophy of care, Vision Mission and Values of the organization.

• Assist in developing and maintaining a safe and harmonious work environment for other staff.

Function:

•Provide a wide range of personal care and related services to residents, under limited supervision, in accordance with the policies and procedures of the organization and Commonwealth and State Legislative requirements, and in accordance with the resident's Care Plan, including:

• Assist and Support residents with medication utilising medication compliance aids; Simple wound dressing; Implementation of continence programs as identified in the Care Plan;

• Attend to routine urinalysis, blood pressure, temperature and pulse checks; Blood sugar level checks etc and assist and support diabetic residents in the management of their insulin and diet, recognizing the signs of both Hyper and Hypoglycaemia.

• Recognize, report and respond appropriately to changes in the condition of residents, within the skills and competence of the employee and the policies and procedures of the organisation.

• Assist in the development and implementation of resident care plans.

• Assist in the development and implementation of programs of activities for residents, under the supervision of the Care Manager, Leisure & Lifestyle Offices or Diversional Therapist.

• Ensuring personal care is provided to each resident who is considered to require assistance with bathing, assistance with dressing, assistance with medication, or assistance with personal washing and communicating with residents in a manner which uses the residents senses as appropriate to their condition.

• Directly assisting residents with bathing and other physical needs, where necessary.

• Ensuring all relatives and visitors receive courteous consideration.

• This position envisages that Personal Care Assistants will be multiskilled in their work to provide a wide range of services which may include the delivery of care services, assistance in food preparation, serving, cleaning and domestic/laundry duties etc.

• Receiving visitors at the front desk by greeting, welcoming, directing and announcing them appropriately
• Answering screening and forwarding incoming phone calls
• Receiving and sorting daily mail

• Inspect buildings and premises for signs of pests or infestation
• Prepare and spray chemical mixtures using various equipment
• Place and set traps
